 The Cubs shut out the Reds in game 1 of a double header behind 6 strong scoreless innings from Yu Darvish and a pair of home runs from Anthony Rizzo in his 18th career multi homer game.

The first place Cubs mounted a late rally in Cincy on Friday night, but came up short. The Cards lost 14-2 at Cleveland, so the number drops and the North Siders maintain a three-game lead in the NL Central.

More bright spots:  J-Hey reached base in 3 of 5 plate appearances, drawing two walks and homering. Kyle Schwarber had a 2-for-4 night with a Schwarbomb, and Rizzo started the Cubs' offense with another solo shot.

The series continues with a twinbill at the Great American Ballpark on Saturday. 31 games down, 29 to go.

The Cubs had a rough Tuesday night in Detroit, with Chatwood and Quintana looking pretty rusty in their respective returns from the IL. In happier news, the Cards' loss dropped the CMN.

Holy cow! The first place Cubs beat the Tigers 9-3 on Monday behind a quality start from Alec Mills (7 IP, 3 ER, 7 K), and 3-for-5 nights from Javier Baez and David Bote. Two of Baez's hits were round-trippers, and win was the 11,000th in Cubs history.

Bote and Javy paced the offense, with David knocking in four and El Mago drove in three.  J-Hey chipped in by reaching base in 3 of his 5 plate appearances, going 2-for-4 and scoring a run, and the team hit .333 with RISP.

Mills scattered seven hits and a walk across his 7 innings, and the bullpen tossed two perfect innings to seal the victory.

The series continues Tuesday at Comerica Park. 28 games down, 32 to go.

Hey hey! The first place Cubs won Sunday's series finale against the White Sox 2-1 behind a dominant start from Yu Darvish (7 IP, 1 ER, 10 K) and a clutch two-run homer from Kyle Schwarber.

Darvish's performance lowered his season ERA to 1.70, and Jeremy Jeffress picked up the save.

The North Siders kick off a 10-game road trip in Detroit on Monday. 26 games down, 34 to go.

Holy cow! The first place Cubs beat the Cards 4-2 in Wednesday's nightcap behind Adbert Alzolay's strong spot start (5 IP, 0 ER, 6 K), two RBI apiece from David Bote & Victor Caratini, and Craig Kimbrel's first save of 2020.

Alzolay's performance was well-timed, as the game was the North Siders' fifth in three days. Ian Happ raised his season average to .315, and Kimbrel struck out three of the four batters he faced.

The Cubs have Thursday off before winding up the homestand with a three-game set against the ChiSox this weekend. 24 games down, 36 to go.

Hey hey! The first place Cubs downed the Cards 6-3 on Tuesday behind a quality start from Darvish (6 IP, 1 ER, 7 K) and HRs from Happ and Schwarber. The win gave the North Siders a 4.5 game lead in the NL Central.

Ian Happ raised his season average to .313, going 2-for-3 with 2 walks, and Jason Heyward's 2-for-3 night raised his average to .291.

Darvish's season ERA now sits at 1.80, and Rowan Wick struck out 4 of the 5 batters he faced to pick up his 4th save of the season while lowering his ERA to 1.13.

The series continues tomorrow with a twinbill at the Friendly Confines. After an off day Thursday, the homestand wraps up with a three-game set against the White Sox. 22 games down, 38 to go.

The MLB-best Chicago Cubs defeat the Cleveland Indians 7-1!

Hey hey! The first place, MLB-best Cubs won their sixth straight game on Wednesday, downing the Royals 6-1 in KC. Yu Darvish had a dominant start (7 IP, 1 ER, 4 K), El Mago drove in two, and the bullpen tossed two no-hit innings to secure the victory.

Tyler Chatwood and his 0.71 ERA take the mound in tomorrow's series finale. The Cubs head to St. Louis for a three-game weekend set that starts Friday. 12 games down, 48 to go!

Holy cow! The first place Cubs beat KC 5-4 on Tuesday night at Wrigley, their fifth straight win! They're sporting the best record in the NL, folks!

Kyle Hendricks had a dominant start (7 IP, 2 ER, 3 K) while homers from J-Hey (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Kipnis (.429 BA), and Willy (2-for-4, .314 BA) powered the offense for the North Siders.

The series moves to KC for the final two games, starting Wednesday. 11 games down, 49 to go.

Holy cow! The first place, NL-best Cubs shut out the Royals 2-0 on Monday night at Wrigley behind a dominant start from Mills (7 IP, 0 ER, 4 K) and a 2-for-3 night from KB.

Bryant's 7th inning solo shot provided an insurance run, and Javier Baez's sac fly plated Nico Hoerner for the North Siders's first tally.

The four-game series continues in Chicago on Tuesday before heading to KC on Wednesday for the final two.  10 games down, 50 to go!

Holy cow! The Cubs came back to beat the Bucs 2-1 at a wet Wrigley Field on Sunday. Jon Lester had another quality start (6 IP, 1 ER, 4 K), and it was Javier Baez's walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th that sealed the historic win for the North Siders.

It was the first-ever Cubs game with the "runner on second in extra innings" rule in place, and they took full advantage of it.

The Royals come to town for a two-game set on Monday. 9 games down, 51 to go!

The first place Chicago Cubs keep rolling at Wrigley with a 4-3 win over the Pirates.

Happ, Báez, and Schwaber all sent balls into the bleachers to back up Chatwood's 6.2 inning, 11 strikeout, night. Scwaber's home run in the eighth was the ninth Cubs homer during or after the seventh inning this season - a league best.

Tomorrow, the Cubbies will go for a sweep of the Bucs!
